Skin Health and Your Shower or Bath

by KJude on November 9, 2009

I love long and hot showers and really long hot baths. However; my skin is so itchy, bumpy looking and dry and chapped afterwards that I wonder why I did that to myself.  I even noticed at the pool this summer; I got headaches from breathing all the chlorine; and that is out in the open!

Read below for some eye opening news.  While there is a significant beauty hazard in showering in chlorine; the health issues are far greater.

I haven’t been able to order the filters yet; and you need to do the research because there are many on the market – but I’ve included a few trusted sources – and you can pay anywhere from $29.99 to $149.99.  Dr. Mercola offers two for under $100 each with tax and shipping, plus extra filters – not a bad deal at all. I have nothing to gain from recommending any shower filters…

…..Most people regard a hot shower or bath as one of life’s little pleasures. However, what many people don’t realize is the danger of chlorine in the water. Although chlorine is universally used to disinfect water, it is not safe for drinking, showering or bathing.

“Chlorine is so dangerous” according to biologist/chemist Dr. Herbert Schwartz,” that it should be banned. Putting chlorine in the water is like starting a time bomb. Cancer, heart trouble, premature senility, both mental and physical are conditions attributable to chlorine treated water supplies. It is making us grow old before our time by producing symptoms of aging such as hardening of the arteries.”

Chlorine is a poison that attacks organic matter. It bonds with the protein in your body. It is harmful to your hair, your skin, your eyes, your nose and mouth membranes and your lungs. Chlorine leaves your hair brittle and dry. It burns your eyes and makes your skin dry flaky and itchy.

Your skin is the body’s largest organ, with over a billion pores.

Experts tell us over 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body.

Bath Chlorine Filters - if you bathe for extended times and don’t have a filter of any kind; add RealSalt (at least a cup) to your bath; or one cup of baking soda.  It really helps your skin and the RealSalt (found in stores) actually detoxifies.
